All students participating in the Vancouver Internships Program will attend intensive Grammar, Speaking, Listening and Writing classes, as well as high level Business English and workplace preparation classes that will allow them to improve and refresh their English skills and get ready for their internships. |

Business English Course Objective:
The purpose of the Business English course is to develop the oral communication skills within functional business contexts, so that students can communicate with English speakers in both formal and informal business situations. Emphasis is placed on increasing industry specific vocabulary based on real industry case studies. Students learn to develop effective presentations, carry on negotiations, conduct business meetings and write effectively while gaining practical knowledge of North American business culture and customs.
Topic - Cultural and Intercultural Training:
Identifying cultural tendencies, communication styles, and methods that impact job performance are topics that are explored. Also, an examination of real workplace situations and language models interns can expect to face during their internship in a Canadian company. In addition, how different cultures communicate and how your own culture influences your communication style is examined and illustrated through experiential activities within a classroom setting.
Topic - Soft skills Training:
In today's competitive workplace environment most employees or potential employees possess similar hard skills (certifications, degrees etc.). Softskills are often the difference in hiring. This section of the course is designed to identify language and word choice relating to communication style, problem solving, creativity, teamwork, leadership etc. that can always benefit from some improvement.
Topic - Intensive Interview Training:
This section of the course is designed to better prepare you for your internship interview with your Canadian host company, as well as provide you with a strong foundation in interview skills in English for your future interviews. Your interviews are filmed and you are given the opportunity to receive direct, honest feedback about your language and word choice as they impact your specific interview style, the impression you create, the effectiveness of your answers to standard interview questions, and your overall professionalism.
